A Woman Divine – Much Has Changed, But Remains The Same

I came a across an old newsletter article I wrote in 2009, when I did coaching and consulting under A Woman Divine.  At the time, I was going in too many directions.  I led women’s networking groups, created groups for professional organizations, held Think Tanks and Coffee Talks for Fempreneurs, trying to coach anybody for everything, and I was confusing the hell out of everybody, including myself.

Raise your hand if you know of a coach who wants to help women step into their power.  Right?!  Unfortunately, although it seems clear enough, it’s not.  And there are quite literally a saturation of coaches, mentors, or authors, who are vying for that role.

There is nothing that brings me more joy than holding space for a woman to emerge from the confines of parental grooming, societal influence, and peer pressure.  This could definitely be interpreted as, “stepping into your power”, but it’s such a deeper and richer experience to release the struggle from food or alcohol.  And it has a lot to do with letting go of control, which could be viewed as power.

My vision, mission, and focus has definitely evolved, but my heart remains the same as it did many years ago.  I enjoyed reading how, although much has changed, my heart has remained the same – to be a witness, encourager, and to simply love.  Enjoy the read!

From the heart of
“A Woman Divine”

Every woman has a story.

This is something that I have had the immense pleasureA Woman Divine experiencing in the last few months.

The woman who feels like she just needs a minute for herself from the constant push and pulls of being a single mom.

The woman who fights the loneliness of being left behind by her husband’s passing.

The woman who fights the urge to burst into tears simply because she is overwhelmed with the ever increasing demands of the modern day woman.  Including but not limited to:  Mother, Wife, Aunt, Business Owner, Employee, Volunteer, Sister, Good Neighbor, Dog Walker, Banker, Cook, Cleaner, Lover, Christian, and the list goes on.

The interesting thing is these women are not my clients.  These are women whom I had never met before, who literally stopped me while walking my dog, all at different times and different places that just needed someone to hear them.  I’m grateful I was able to gift them my time and be a quiet listener.

So, remember to be kind and always keep your heart open.  You never know when someone might need to share their story.  Consider yourself blessed if someone finds comfort in your company to tell you theirs.

Sometimes all we need is just to be heard to make the grit not so gritty.

Keeping an open heart ~

5 Steps to Motivate Yourself

Finding Motivation

Return to Self

How to return to self from the land of meh.

Have you ever been stuck in a place of “meh”? The land of not interested, uninspired, and lack of enthusiasm? Maybe you’ve been in this space for a while. Maybe for the last few days, weeks, or months you’ve been moving like a sloth through life and nothing feels alive.

What I’m describing here can be mistaken for depression, but that’s not what I’m talking about. I’m talking about a space of meh. A place of emptiness and why bother. A space of what the hell and who cares. A land of lost and void of self. The big difference of meh and depression is specific steps can break the pattern and get you feeling better and moving forward in no time.

More importantly, I’m talking about my own personal experience and process.  If you can relate and it helps you, double zinger, triple awesome, exponential flips over the moon, fabulous.

If you can relate and it helps you, double zinger, triple awesome, exponential flips over the moon, fabulous.

5 Simple Steps to Motivate Yourself

Step 1: Toto, we’re not in Kansas anymore.

Awareness is where the shift begins. You’d think this is obvious, but it’s surprising how we can talk ourselves into ignoring the truth.  Once you acknowledge you’re in meh – no excuses – only acceptance and proceed to step two.

Step 2: Kindness matters

Handle yourself with tender loving care. There is no use in beating yourself up or using demoralizing language.  Speak kind words to yourself and leave the “should haves” at the door.  Treat yourself like you would your best friend when she needs support.

Step 3: Resist the “why” stop

Don’t get off at the “why” stop. Don’t spend time trying to figure out why you arrived at meh. It will delay your return to self.  It’s best to approach why, if you feel the need to, from a happy, healthy, whole space.

Step 4: Finding Norm

Get back to your regular activities now, even if you don’t feel like it. I know when I’m in meh, I don’t want to exercise, take time to juice, do my hair, or go anywhere.  I – j u s t – d o n’ t – w a n t – t o – d o – i t (period). Do it anyway. It’s the fastest way to get back to self from meh.

Step 5: Return to Me

It may take a few intentional norm activities, but keep moving forward. Before you know it, you’ll be rounding that corner and self will be there waiting for you. The clouds will break, the sun will shine, and the angels will sing. Okay, maybe that’s a bit over the top. But, you’ll get back to feeling yourself in no time.

One word of warning…

It’s easy to want to avoid acknowledging the land of “meh”, by using food or alcohol to blur the landscape. The land of meh is where many habitual activities and behaviors begin.  Be careful.

Alcoholics Anonymous, church, me and you

I have a little rebel, maybe a lot, in me. I live a sober life. I am a Christian. I don’t attend AA meetings. I don’t attend church. Yet, I have appreciation for both. Especially, if they keep you healthy and dare I say, happy – joyful most definitely. I have been told I’m not a Christian, if I don’t go to church. And I have been told I will get drunk, if I don’t go to meetings. To which I say, there are no guarantees, if I do or don’t do either of the above. Actually, what I know for sure is, if I go against my inherent grain, my soul, my spirit, my beliefs (which I challenge from time to time), I will more than likely end up drunk, bitter, and resentful.

Peace is my guide and love is my direction.

I was born with an independent soul that is connected to all living things. Peace is my guide and love is my direction. That’s truth for me. I have found I’m at greater risk when I fall under someone else’s spell in the way of their belief, truth, or way of living. If they, people of the church or program, fall out of step, are not rigorously honest, bend the rules, have shades of truth, areas of gray, seem disingenuous, yet are the first to talk program or preach the word in righteous tone, the whole promise crumbles, program or religion.

…sometimes I stand alone.

I found the way for me to be healthy and at peace, is to be willing to do my own work, and sometimes stand alone.  I study the word and talk to Jesus in my way, commune with the Father through nature, and be in the body of Christ through fellowship, in a less formal manner. I began my relationship with Christ unwittingly as a child, abandoned Him for most of my life, and it was He I returned to when I was lost and nearly broken. I began living my life many years ago, not as an alcoholic, but as a woman who digs deep, faces her fears, keeps no secrets, stop telling lies to herself. I am a woman who lives in forward motion, always growing. I got sober in the rooms of alcoholics anonymous, but I chose my sobriety over the rooms of AA, many years ago.believe in you alcoholics anonymous church and me

This is my way. I invite you to go deep and find your way.

Be still. Listen. Ask questions. Keep notes.

Get to know and love yourself. Practice. Change your mind.

Experiment. Express yourself. Take imperfekt action.

Make mistakes. Dust yourself off and carry on.

Dream. Aspire. Create a plan.

Go for it. It’s YOUR life…live it.

Mom, I love you This is the dedication in my firs Mom, I love you

This is the dedication in my first book, Wholly Sober.

There are no words to express the depth of love I have for my mom. She is my why.

As I write these words, my breath collects in my belly, there is constriction around my heart, and tears flood my lower lids.

My Mom died sometime between Thursday night and Friday morning. So many questions, emotions, regrets, wish I had, should have, if only...

Got my first Moderna shot today. My husband’s Got my first Moderna shot today.

My husband’s ride is in the shop so I had to walk to Safeway to get it. While there I needed to pick up some groceries and knew what I bought I’d have to carry for a mile in the blistering 50-degree sun (it felt SO much hotter) 😆 I'm a moon 🌙 child what can I say. ♥️

About halfway home, I started thinking about when I was little mom didn't drive, and we’d have to walk a mile every time we needed groceries: mom and her three little ones.

And when I was a teen mom on public assistance and no car I’d have to walk with Co-bear (Cody, my oldest son) a mile or more and have to push a cart home and then return it.

Feeling thankful for the ability to walk a mile, buy groceries, and get vaccinated.

“The photo captured me and a new friend I had made at church camp, Shannon. She was what I wrote about in Wholly Sober, a good girl. The picture is out of focus, but you can see that it’s me in my swimsuit, cut-off shorts, and pigtails on the right.

Even now, my stomach has an ache in it. As if there is a fist-sized knot pressing up against my heart, causing my breath to catch and giving me a bizarre tingly sensation through my body. Anxiety....

In Wholly Sober, I wrote about this pivotal moment in time.

“…I Would Never Be A Good Girl

Rather than trying to become what I could never be, I disconnected from God and the good girls to be on my own… I stopped thinking about God… I walked away and never looked back.

I was twelve.

Coincidently that same year, I experienced my first intentional drunk…”

Let’s discuss the “I just want to stop thinkin Let’s discuss the “I just want to stop thinking” trigger or prompt to drink.

Drinking to avoid remembering, knowing, and feeling. We sometimes just use a shortcut for these reasons to drink and say something like, “I just want to stop thinking.”

I get it! Hell, I get it so good I am still haunted at times by memories that seem to pop out of nowhere trying to convince me that I am bad and deserve to suffer. I would be lying if I said I never fall victim to their seduction to shame.

So, what do I do since I don’t misuse alcohol to help put these random angry ghosts from my past back in the “do not open” drawer?

I want to add even if you drink, Think P.I.N.K.

The final video in this series but the first step The final video in this series but the first step in the P.I.N.K. Cloud process.

Enjoy!

The K in P.I.N.K. is for KINDNESS

We can be brutal when we make mistakes

when we swore off alcohol forever in a moment of panic

only with time and distance

we reason our resolve away or

tell ourselves we’ll just have one and end up having several

berating shaming and guilting only perpetuates the pain drinking problem cycle

What science has to say about being kind to ourselves

It lowers our heart rate and changes the length between heartbeats

this helps us respond more flexibly to situations which allows us to be open to explore other POSSIBILITIES

It calms the heart rate switching off the bodies threat response

which keeps us from reacting impulsively and helps us to remain focused on our INTENTIONS

When our bodies are in threat response, it shuts down our ability to create new neural pathways. Remaining kind and calm are ideal for NEUROPLASTICITY (the ability to change our brains)!

Before you drink, Think PINK!

Why Pink Cloud? I’m Teresa Rodden, an advocate Why Pink Cloud?

I’m Teresa Rodden, an advocate for having other possibilities to explore and founder of Pink Cloud Coaching, established in 2012.

So why Pink Cloud? Because it was being told that I was on a pink cloud over 17 years ago that saved my sober life.

It got me thinking about my future and having an aspiration pulled me through relying on a nightly habit of drinking away pain, causing more problems that created more pain, and the cycle would continue.

BUT My pink cloud reminded me that I was moving forward, and the future was not set.

I had the power of choice, and the possibilities were limitless.

Pink Cloud Coaching offers an innovative approach for women who are curious or concerned about their drinking habit.

Before you make alcohol the enemy and swear off it forever in a moment of panic which could cause more harm than help
